TV Academy Names Lucy Hood President and COO

Hood replaces the retiring Alan Perris

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has appointed Lucy Hood president and chief operating officer.

Hood, executive director of the Institute for Communication Technology Management at  USC, replaces Alan Perris, who announced his retirement earlier this year. 

She was previously President of Fox Mobile Entertainment and senior VP at News Corp., and received the first daytime Emmy nomination for mobile content with the mobile video series "24: Conspiracy."

As President and COO, Hood will report to Television Academy Chairman Bruce Rosenblum and Foundation Chairman Jerry Petry.

Hood will responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Academy and its Foundation, overseeing department heads and staff, and acting as liaison to the Executive Committees and the Boards of both organizations.

She will oversee digital strategy, corporate sponsorships, marketing and financial planning. Perris, who had been COO, will work with the Academy through the end of the year as a consultant, helping advise Hood during the transition process and through the Emmy telecast.

“Lucy is an incredibly smart and forward thinking executive who we believe is the perfect fit for the Television Academy,” said Rosenblum and Petry jointly in a statement. “Her leadership along with knowledgeable background in new media is exactly the type of President/COO that the Academy requires as our organization looks toward the future of television.”

Hood said she looked forward to helping the Academy adapt and evolve during a time of so much change in the television industry.

“I am thrilled to be joining such a prestigious organization as the Television Academy,” she said.

Hood brings deep tech experience to the post. USC's CTM, which focuses on technology and entertainment, works with corporate partners includeing Disney, Fox, Warner Bros. and YouTube.

Hood helped launch Fox.com and FX Cable during her time at the studio. Previously, she was an executive at Paramount Pictures, and produced the news program, "Business Times."
