Tyler Perry and Tim Palen have partnered to form a new production company, Peachtree & Vine Productions.
The non-exclusive joint venture will create film, television and digital content in both the scripted and unscripted space. Palen was the head of marketing at Lionsgate, the studio behind Perry’s popular “Madea” film franchise. Earlier this year, Palen left Lionsgate to move into production and founded Barnyard Projects.
“Tim and I have had great success in our many years of working together – he truly understands my audience and my brand,” Perry said in a statement on Tuesday. “I value his taste in material and his understanding of the current marketplace of film and television and I’m looking forward to continuing our work together.”
Peachtree & Vine will be subject to Perry’s existing production deal commitments with Viacom. Perry has a multi-year deal with Viacom and its forthcoming streaming service BET+ — Perry has a financial stake — and a first-look deal with Paramount on the film side. Perry is currently in production on two upcoming television series at BET, “Sistas” and “The Oval.”
“I have loved working with Tyler Perry and couldn’t be more excited about this new venture,” said Palen. “We have a number of smart and inspired projects in the works that we will be announcing shortly.”
