“Underground” is bringing in Aisha Hinds to take on the pivotal role of Harriet Tubman for Season 2, TheWrap has learned.

The “Under the Dome” alum will appear in a recurring guest star role as the legendary Underground Railroad conductor, who made her first appearance on the show in the Season 1 finale, albeit played by a different actress.

Born a slave, Tubman is a devout Christian who, after escaping herself, risks her life again and again in order to free her family members and lead anyone willing to journey north across hostile territory to freedom.

In addition, Amirah Vann, whose plays slave matriarch Ernestine, will be a series regular in Season 2. She had a recurring role in Season 1, where her character’s fate at the auction block left viewers in suspense.

Joining the cast in Season 2 are recurring guest stars Jasika Nicole as Georgia, an abolitionist with a covert station along the Underground; Michael Trotter as Biographer, an astute observer of people who lives through the lives of others often fearful of taking chances; and Jesse Luken as Smoke, the fearless second-in-command of Patty Cannon’s infamous gang of slave catchers.

The 10-episode Season 2 of the hit WGN America series, which starts production on Aug. 29 in Georgia, will continue to follow the adventures of runaway slaves who risk their lives for a better life in the North.

Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Aldis Hodge, Christopher Meloni, Alano Miller and ‎Jessica de Gouw will all reprise their Season 1 roles. Marc Blucas will guest star as John Hawkes.
