WGN America drama series returns on March 8

“Underground” Season 2 is right around the corner and from the looks of the new trailer released Thursday, you’ll need to buckle up.

Season 2 picks up shortly after the events of Season 1, with Rosalee (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) now working alongside Harriet Tubman (Aisha Hinds) in helping runaway slaves escape to the North.

Meanwhile, Noah (Aldis Hodge) is locked up in prison awaiting some kind of legal assistance courtesy of John Hawkes (Marc Blucas) and Miss Ernestine (Amriah Vann) has been separated from her family and sent to a new plantation.

The 10-episode second season of the Underground Railroad drama follows our heroes in a divided America on the brink of civil war, each side vying to enact their own justice.

Oscar winner and series executive producer John Legend will guest star as escaped slave Frederick Douglass, while “Fargo” star Bokeem Woodbine will join the show in a recurring guest role as a stonemason named Daniel. Christopher Meloni, Alano Miller and ‎Jessica de Gouw will all reprise their Season 1 roles.

From Sony Pictures Television, the series was created and written by Misha Green and Joe Pokaski, who serve as executive producers alongside Emmy-nominated director Anthony Hemingway; Academy Award-winning writer Akiva Goldsman of Weed Road Pictures; Tory Tunnell and Joby Harold of Safehouse Pictures; Legend, Mike Jackson and Ty Stiklorius of Get Lifted Film Co; and Mark Taylor.

“Underground” Season 2 will premiere March 8 on WGN America.
