Universal Promotes Digital Marketing Chief Doug Neil After Strong Summer

Neil constructed successful campagins for "The Purge" and "Fast & Furious 6"

Universal has promoted Doug Neil to Executive Vice President of Digital Marketing, the studio said on Monday. Neil has been an  senior VP at the studio since 2006, overseeing a team of 13 people who craft and implement digital marketing efforts for upcoming films.

He reports to Universal marketing co-president Michael Moses.

"Doug earned this promotion with every click, like, post and share he and his team have generated for our films, propelling our studio into industry leaders in the digital and social spaces," Moses said in a statement, calling his "contributions fundamental to our recent run of successes."

Producers and rival executives have credited Universal’s savvy digital marketing as a key to its recent success. As TheWrap noted earlier this summer, the studio has been on a tear for more than a year, including this summer when the studio released “Fast & Furious 6,” “Despicable Me 2” and “The Purge.”

In its press release announcing Neil’s promotion, Universal credited Neil’s work building a fan base online for the “Fast” franchise and his social media campgin for last year’s “Pitch Perfect,” among others.

The College of William and Mary graduate worked at AOL before joining Universal.
