Universal Sets a Date for Legendary Pictures’ ‘Warcraft’

The video-game based action epic is the first film dated under the newly formed partnership

Universal said Tuesday that it will release Legendary Pictures’action fantasy “Warcraft” on Friday, Dec. 18, 2015.

“Warcraft” marks the first film dated under the recently formed partnership between Universal and Legendary, in the wake of Legendary’s exit from its long-running partnership with Warner Bros.

The film, an epic adventure of world-colliding conflict based on the video game universe created by Blizzard Entertainment, will be directed by Duncan Jones (“Source Code”) and is written by Jones and Charles Leavitt.

The development of “Warcraft” has been protracted. Legendary and Blizzard announced plans for the movie back in 2006.
