Universal TV Taps Andrew Weil as VP of Comedy Development

New hire had previously worked at BermanBraun

Andrew Weil has been named VP of comedy development at Universal Television, the company announced Wednesday.

Weil's addition completes Universal's new team of development executives, which also comprises Universal's drama development team of Russell Rothberg and Erin Underhill, and Universal's senior VP, comedy development Tracey Pakosta, to whom Weil will report.

Weil most recently served as head of scripted television at BermanBraun, where he ushered the Syfy series "Alpha" through development and supervised the NBC drama "The Cape."

Weil's career began at Paramount, while he was still attending the University of Southern California as a cinema student.

Universal Television executive VP Bela Bajaria praised Weil's "great creative instincts, strong relationships, and … good track record in selling comedies" when announcing the hire.
