‘UnReal’s’ Shiri Appleby to Guest Star on CBS’ ‘Code Black’

New medical drama premieres on Sept. 30

Shiri Appleby has been cast in a guest starring role in the new CBS medical drama “Code Black,” an individual with knowledge of the casting told TheWrap.

Appleby will play Dr. Carla Niven, the ex-girlfriend of Dr. Malaya Pineda (Melanie Chandra). Niven comes to Angel Memorial as a pregnant patient looking for treatment for muscle pain that turns out to be a form of cancer.

Appleby is currently scheduled to appear on one episode of the show, but she could potentially appear in more. She currently stars as Rachel Goldberg on the Lifetime series “UnReal,” which is also executive produced by “Code Black” executive producer Marti Noxon.

“Code Black” follows a team of doctors at L.A .county hospital Angel Memorial. The title refers to a state of emergency in which there are more patients than their are resources to treat them. The series stars Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzman, and Benjamin Hollingsworth.

“Code Black” premieres on CBS on Sept. 30 at 10 p.m.
