Use Christmas Cash to Buy Adam West’s Batmobile in January

Batman's original ride will be auctioned off by the Barrett-Jackson auction house in Scottsdale, Ariz.

If any amateur caped crusaders are looking for a seasoned superhero sidekick, then stop by the Barrett-Jackson auction house in Scottsdale, Ariz., in January because the original Batmobile is up for grabs.

The iconic car that Adam West drove Burt Ward around in between 1966 and 1968, during the televised adventures of "Batman," is being auctioned off. Although a spokeswoman for the auction house couldn't tell TheWrap what the minimum asking price is, the winning bid is expected to be in the millions.

"The Batmobile is true Americana and it’s hard to put a dollar figure on something like that,” said Craig Jackson, Chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “The difference is that this is the real deal, the original and the only one to have been on the Batman series – it’s been in George Barris’ garage for all these years and that is invaluable. We expect plenty of enthusiasts and fans to come out and wouldn’t be surprised if the car sold for multiple millions.”

George Barris is the famed car customizer responsible for turning a 19-foot-long, bubble-topped 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car into what it is today. And if that multimillion-dollar estimate is correct, he's making a massive profit for doing so.

Barris originally bought the Ford Motor Co. car for just one dollar before 20th Century Fox Television gave him $15,000 to turn it into a moving set piece, which is still drivable to this day.

Car collectors and fans of the series will get the chance to empty their bank accounts for the classic when it hits the auction block on Jan. 19, 2013.
