‘Valerian’ First Trailer Puts Cara Delevigne at Center of Incredible Visual Spectacle in Space (Video)

Latest film from “Fifth Element” director Luc Besson will premiere in U.S. theaters on July 21

The first trailer for “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” is perhaps the greatest visual experience seen in a film since “Avatar.”

The film is based on the 1967 graphic novel by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mezieres. Dane DeHaan stars as the titular character, who can travel through space and time. Cara Delevingne plays his partner Laureline, with the team of two being sent to investigate a mystery in the sprawling space city of Alpha.

Other stars of the film include John Goodman, Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke and Rihanna. Music legend Herbie Hancock was also cast in an unspecified role.

Luc Besson, the mind behind films like “The Fifth Element” and “Lucy,” wrote, produced and directed the film, which had a reported budget of $180 million. Virginie Besson-Silla produced on behalf of EuropaCorp, which is financing, producing and distributing the movie.

“Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” will premiere in the U.S. on July 21.
