‘Veronica Mars’ Revival to Premiere on Hulu in July (Video)

Star Kristen Bell returns along with most of the original cast for the eight-episode run

Hulu’s eight-episode revival of “Veronica Mars” will finally hit Hulu this summer.

A new teaser featuring star Kristen Bell was shared on Friday with the announcement that the former CW series will make its return on July 26.

Along with star Bell and series creator Rob Thomas, the revival will reteam “Veronica Mars” alums Jason Dohring (Logan), Francis Capra (Weevil), Percy Daggs III (Wallace), David Starzyk (Richard Casablancas) and Enrico Colantoni (Veronica’s father, Keith Mars) and Ryan Hansen (Dick Casablancas).

Former recurring star Max Greenfield is also reprising his role as Leo D’Amato, who was a sheriff’s deputy on the OG series and a detective at the San Diego Police Department in the 2014 film that helped Veronica in the Susan Knight murder investigation. And Ken Marino is coming back as sleuth Vinnie Van Lowe for three episodes.

Patton Oswalt,  Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Dawnn Lewis and J.K. Simmons will also join the revival as new characters.

Here is Hulu’s official logline for the revival: Spring breakers are getting murdered in Neptune, thereby decimating the seaside town’s lifeblood tourist industry. After Mars Investigations is hired by the parents of one of the victims to find their son’s killer, Veronica is drawn into an epic eight-episode mystery that pits the enclave’s wealthy elites, who would rather put an end to the month-long bacchanalia, against a working class that relies on the cash influx that comes with being the West Coast’s answer to Daytona Beach.

When TheWrap sat down with Hulu’s Senior Vice President of Originals, Craig Erwich, during the Television Critics Association earlier this year, we asked if the return of the former-UPN-then-CW-drama is a one-and-done project for the streamer — or if there is the possibility of a Season 2.

“We’d be totally open to that,” Erwich said at the time. “We’ve ordered eight episodes,” he said, adding that the revival has “a proper, satisfactory narrative ending.” However, Erwich said, should creator Rob Thomas and “the creative come together for Season 2 and should people like it as much as we like it, totally open to that.”

The series is from Spondoolie Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Along with Thomas, Diane Ruggiero-Wright and Dan Etheridge will serve as executive producers.
