VH1 Snags Abdul for ‘Divas’ Host

Paula Abdul is no longer unemployed.

The former "American Idol" job has signed on to host "VH1 Divas," the cable network’s upcoming female-driven concert special. The event will air live from New York on Thursday, Sept. 17.

Abdul’s deal with VH1 marks her first announced project since the singer/dancer/TV personality said she would not be returning to "Idol." She had previously taped a guest arc on Lifetime’s "Drop Dead Diva" which will air later this summer.

VH1 also said Tuesday that former "Idol" contestant Jordin Sparks has been added to the performer roster for "Divas." Original "Idol" winner Kelly Clarkson had already been confirmed for the show, along with Miley Cyrus, Adele and Leona Lewis.

No word yet on whether three of the biggest music divas– Madonna, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey– will appear. All three have new albums dropping in coming weeks. Houston and Carey have performed on past editions of "Divas."
