Vince Vaughn is in early talks to star in comedy “The Politician” for Columbia Pictures and director Michael Dowse, an individual with knowledge of the project tells TheWrap.

The titular character in the film is a disgraced governor who’s caught in a scandal involving hookers, prompting him to go on the run along with an underachieving accomplice from the FBI and U.S. Marshals. Along the way, he is kidnapped by a constituent who’s even crazier than he is. The hard-R comedy is described as being in the vein of “Bad Santa.”

Seth Rogen is producing “The Politician” with his Point Grey partners Evan Goldberg and James Weaver, along with Mark Gordon.

Vaughn was last seen reprising his role as Wes Mantooth in “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” and has wrapped filming on thriller “Term Life.” He is also expected to be part of the season 2 cast of HBO’s “True Detective.” He is repped by CAA and Jackoway Tyerman.
