Virginia Gardner, Ariela Barer on Why ‘Marvel’s Runaways’ Is the Show We Need Right Now (Exclusive Video)

“It employs a lot of women behind the camera as well as in front of the camera,” Barer tells TheWrap

“Marvel’s Runaways” is the show we need right now, according to stars Virginia Gardner and Ariela Barer, because of the message it sends about female empowerment and diversity.

“I think to have a show that appeals to a young audience, that has a diverse cast, that has a great message, that has a lot of female empowerment, I think right now, it’s exactly what we needed,” Gardner told TheWrap.

“It employs a lot of women behind the camera as well as in front of the camera so the entire environment on set is a little different than what I am used to,” added Barer.

“Runaways” also stars Lyrica Okano, Gregg Sulkin, Kevin Weisman, Allegra Acosta and Brittany Ishibashi and was created by Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz. It follows a group of teenagers who find out their parents are super-villains in disguise and run away from home to atone for their parents’ actions.

New episodes of “Marvel’s Runaways” are made available to stream Tuesdays on Hulu and will conclude the season on January 9.
