‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ Trailer: Caesar’s Army Readies for Conquest (Video)

CinemaCon 2017: Andy Serkis returns as ape leader Caesar when film opens in July

20th Century Fox unveiled the latest trailer for “War for the Planet of the Apes’ Thursday morning during its CinemaCon presentation as well as online.

In the film, Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel (Woody Harrelson). After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own quest to avenge his kind.

As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in a battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

The new trailer shows glimpses of the escalating battle between Caesar and the Colonel, as the ape leader is tempted by the humans’ aggression to abandon his defense-only policy and to conquer the humans for good.

“I offered you peace,” seethes Caesar. “I showed you mercy.”

“You talk about mercy?” sneers the Colonel. “No matter what you say, you’d eventually replace us. That is the law of nature.”

The trailer also shows Amiah Miller as Nova, a mute human girl who bonds with some of the apes. Interestingly Nova also appears as an adult in the original 1968 film, in which she was played by Linda Harrison. We also see Caesar captured by a group of turncoat apes who have allied themselves with the Colonel’s forces.

Steve Zahn, Judy Greer, Karin Konoval,  and Terry Notary also star. Matt Reeves returns as director after helming 2014’s “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.” Reeves also co-wrote the screenplay with Mark Bomback. Bomback serves as an executive producer Mary McLaglen. Peter Chernin, Dylan Clark, Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver are producing.

“War for the Planet of the Apes” will hit theaters on July 14. Watch the trailer in the clip above.
