The latest trailer for “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” was light on plot, focusing more on the fun factor the film provides. It also offered adorable glimpses of the turtles as they were growing up.

Fully grown, they’re decidedly less cute as they’re saving the city of New York from the Shredder. This is easily the least cute iteration of the “Turtles” yet, and they’ve been adapted and renewed countless times since their comic book debut 30 years ago. They’re downright cuddly in the current animated “TMNT” series on Nickelodeon.
For their feature film reboot, the cute factor has been replaced with having the turtles look tough and intimidating, and on that level it works quite a bit. We don’t blame Megan Fox at all for fainting when she first meets them. Maybe it’s those controversial nostrils.

After seeing little Mikey training, though, we hope we get more than a quick flash of those adorable young turtles when the Jonathan Liebesman-directed film hits theaters on Aug. 8.
