Well, Duh: CW Officially Orders More ‘Vampire,’ ‘Melrose’

Full-season pickup of bloodsuckers was completely expected. “MP” gets time to see if Heather Locklear works.

The CW has given a full-season order to its only hit of the fall, greenlighting nine more epsiodes of "The Vampire Diaries."

The announcement comes a few weeks after the network ordered nine more scripts of the series. The decision, however, was no doubt made days, if not weeks ago, after CW brass saw the show continuing to grow off its strong premiere last month.

Also Wednesday, the CW confirmed it’s ordered five more episodes of "Melrose Place," which hasn’t done nearly as well as "VD" in the ratings. The pickup wasn’t unexpected, either, mainly because the deal for returning star Heather Locklear made it a no-brainer to extend the show’s run a bit to see if she can breathe some life into the series.

As we noted last month, Locklear has agreed to appear in at least seven episodes of "MP." That deal virtually assured "MP" at least a few more episodes beyond its original 13.
