Wendy Williams Slammed by GLAAD Over ‘Ludicrous’ Bruce Jenner Nail Polish Comments (Updated)

Wendy Williams has come under fire by GLAAD for remarks she made Wednesday on her talk show about Bruce Jenner’s pink nail polish and gender identity.

“To suggest that a person’s nail polish color or hairstyle would inflict harm on their children is just ludicrous,” GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis told TheWrap. “What does inflict harm, however, is gross and invasive speculation about a person’s gender identity.”

During her Hot Topics segment on “The Wendy Williams Show,” the host referenced a picture of Jenner that TMZ had acquired, which showed the former Olympian and current “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star golfing on his 65th birthday. The talk show host first commended Jennfer for “living his truth” before referencing Jenner’s pink nail polish.

“I think society in general — you might not like [someone who is LGBT] but you damn sure are outnumbered if you say something about it… I don’t know what he’s on his way to doing. All I know is that I’m happy for him because he’s able to live in his own truth… One step at a time, everybody. One step at a time, we will get through this together,” Williams said.

She continued: “He at least waited for his kids to grow up, so he doesn’t have to go to PTA meetings with a shaved Adam’s apple, and a blowout, and pink nails, and a cigarette. You know what I’m saying?”

Some viewers were not amused. They pointed out on social media that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and it’s possible Jenner painted his nails in support of the cause. Regardless, GLAAD was unhappy with Williams’ commentary.

This isn’t the first time Jenner has been a Hot Topic on Williams’ show. Last week, she focused on reports about his dating life.

“Bruce Jenner is reportedly dating … a WOMAN!” Williams said. “And her name is Ron-… (pause) -da,” she continued, using her confusion about Jenner’s appearance to express surprise that he wasn’t dating a man.

In addition to being chastised by GLAAD, the talk show host is being called out on Twitter by some of her viewers.

Representatives from “The Wendy Williams Show” have not yet responded to TheWrap’s request for comment. Below are some of the tweets about Williams’ comments.
