Written and directed by former GQ editor and frequent celebrity interviewer Mark Anthony Green, “Opus” is an A24 thriller about, well, the horrors of celebrity culture. A kind of tonal and narrative cousin to 2022’s “The Menu,” the film is a nightmarish satire set at a remote compound owned by a popular, potentially malevolent musician. Featuring a star-studded cast, it joins “Heart Eyes,” “Companion,” “The Gorge” and “The Monkey” on 2025’s growing list of noteworthy high-concept thrillers and horror movies.

Here is how, when and where you can watch “Opus.”

When does “Opus” come out?

“Opus” is set to be released on Friday, March 14. It made its world premiere on January 27 at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.

Is “Opus” streaming or in theaters?

An A24 release, “Opus” is currently only playing in theaters. It will likely be at least a few weeks before the film becomes available to rent on VOD, too, and even longer before it debuts on a streaming service. For now, you can purchase tickets to local theatrical screenings of the film at the following links:

Who is in the film’s cast?

“Opus” stars Ayo Edebiri (“The Bear”), John Malkovich (“Being John Malkovich”), Juliette Lewis (“Yellowjackets”), Murray Bartlett (“The White Lotus”), Amber Midthunder (“Prey”), Young Mazino (“Beef”), Tatanka Means (“Killers of the Flower Moon”) and Tony Hale (“Veep”).

What is “Opus” about?

“Opus” follows a young writer (Edebiri) who is invited to visit to a remote compound occupied by a legendary, eccentric pop star (Malkovich) who disappeared under mysterious circumstances 30 years prior. Once she arrives, Edebiri’s Ariel finds herself surrounded by a cult of adoring fans, journalists and admirers who are unabashedly drawn to the fame and charisma of Malkovich’s Alfred Moretti.

She soon begins to suspect that the gathering itself has been orchestrated by Moretti for more twisted and sinister reasons than anyone could predict.
