Will Smith is nearing a deal to star alongside Rooney Mara in the indie movie “Collateral Beauty,” which hails from “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, TheWrap has learned.
Allan Loeb wrote the film, which will find Smith playing a New York ad executive who suffers a tragedy and finds his life slipping into a deep, dark depression.
PalmStar is fully financing the film, which Loeb is producing with Anonymous Content’s Michael Sugar and Bard Dorros. PalmStar’s Kevin Frakes is executive producing with Likely Story’s Anthony Bregman and Steven Pearl.
The film is also expected to be a co-production with Smith’s production company Overbrook Entertainment. Shooting is slated to start in the fall.
Smith, who has been busy filming David Ayer’s comic book movie “Suicide Squad,” will soon be seen in Sony’s football drama “Concussion.”
