DirecTV’s 101 Network is adding repeats of HBO’s "The Wire" to its lineup — uncut and in HD.
The critically beatified series has been seen outside of HBO before, with BET picking up a window on the series three years ago. But this will be the first time the show has aired sans commercials (and in HD) since it concluded its initial run on HBO.
DirecTV will air the 60-episode series Sunday nights starting July 18.
“By adding ‘The Wire’ to our Sunday night lineup, we are further cementing The 101 Network’s reputation as a destination for the most
highly acclaimed dramas on television,” said Patty Ishimoto, vice president and general manager of 101 Network.
The 101 has become a favorite of cult TV fan for helping keep endangered series such as NBC’s "Friday Night Lights" alive. The channel is talking to FX about financing further seasons of "Damages," according to a recent report on EW.com.
