In the new poster for Warner Bros./DC Films’ upcoming “Wonder Woman,” the heroine played by Gal Gadot pulls a Colin Kaepernick.
The actress, who tweeted the new poster on Friday, is seen in costume taking a knee on a beach in a brilliantly lit sunset (or sunrise?) — a pose that recalls the protest made by the San Francisco 49ers quarterback during the national anthem throughout last fall’s NFL season.
Her magical lasso of truth is nowhere to be seen, but she does wield a sword — which oddly isn’t sharp enough to pierce the surface of the sand on the shores of her native Paradise Island.
Gadot made her first appearance as Wonder Woman in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” which debuted to $166 million at the box office this past spring.
The standalone “Wonder Woman,” from director Patty Jenkins, also stars Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Chris Pine, David Thewlis, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis and Danny Huston.
“Wonder Woman” will be released in theaters on June 2, 2017.
