Warner Bros. has just revealed a new “Wonder Woman” trailer, which will be released theatrically this weekend in front of Marvel Studios’ “Doctor Strange.”
The footage takes us to Gadot’s home, Paradise Island, where the Amazons dwell, and offers looks at Connie Nielsen and the ice-grilled Robin Wright riding into battle on horseback.
The trailer also teases one of Wonder Woman’s coolest weapons, the golden lasso of truth, and hints at a romance with Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), a U.S. military man who washes up on the island.
“Wonder Woman” also ushers in the Geoff John era of DC Films, as the co-president of DC Entertainment is the credited screenwriter along with Allan Heinberg.
In the wake of the reception from fans to “Batman v Superman,” Tsujihara promoted Johns from DC Comics’ chief creative officer to co-president of DC Entertainment with longtime studio exec Jon Berg. The duo is also serving as co-producers on the rest of the DC slate, including the “Justice League” movies (along with Batman, himself, Ben Affleck).
Johns and Affleck are currently co-writing the screenplay for a stand-alone “Batman” movie, directed by and starring Affleck. He also gets a story writer credit for “Aquaman” with director James Wan.
Gadot made her first appearance as Wonder Woman in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” which debuted to $166 million at the box office this past spring.
The standalone “Wonder Woman,” from director Patty Jenkins, also stars David Thewlis, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis and Danny Huston.
“Wonder Woman” will be released in theaters on June 9, 2017.
