Calm down, Kansas City Royals fan — the real winner last night was Fox Sports.

On Tuesday night, Game 1 of the 2015 World Series hit its highest metered market rating since 2009. The big 10.5 rating/18 share was up 31 percent versus the comparable contest last fall.

In primetime (8 p.m.- 11), Fox averaged a 10.4/17. That number projects to be the network’s best performance for a Tuesday night since at least Feb. 2012. Day-of-the-week aside, Game 1 looks like it will be Fox’s top night in primetime since July’s Women’s World Cup Final, when the Americans took the trophy.

Locally, the Mets’ New York City market brought in a 26.2/43. The much smaller Kansas City market was less split across other TV offerings, with a huge 57.3/78.

Perhaps needless to say, Fox easily topped its broadcast competition on Tuesday.

The Royals took on the San Francisco Giants in the 2014 World Series. The 2009 number above refers to that season’s New York Yankees-Philadelphia Phillies Fall Classic.
