XXXTentacion, whose real name was Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, was killed in a drive-by shooting on Monday. The 20-year-old rising hip-hop star was transported to an area hospital where he lapsed into a coma and later died from his injuries, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office confirmed via Twitter.
According to the sheriff’s office, XXXTentacion was leaving RIVA Motorsports in Deerfield Beach, Florida, shortly before 4 p.m. when he was approached by two armed suspects.
The rapper, whose second album “?” debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in 2017, was shopping for motorcycles in Deerfield Beach outside of Miami when he was shot and killed by a gunman, according to TMZ.
Born in Plantation, Florida, XXXTentacion entered the music industry in 2013 with the release of his song “News/Flock” and later became a popular figure on the streaming service SoundCloud.
However, XXXTentacion’s rise to fame in the rap world had been rocked by legal troubles dating back to 2014 when he was sent to a youth detention center for a year on gun possession charges. In 2016, he was arrested again and charged with robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
