Zack Snyder is bringing an anime series based on Norse mythology to Netflix.

The “Batman V Superman” and “Watchmen” director will team with his frequent collaborator Jay Olivia, who has worked as a storyboard artist on many of Snyder’s films including “Justice League,” “Batman v Superman,” “300: Rise of an Empire” and “Man of Steel.”

Olivia, who co-created the series with Snyder, will serve as showrunner, director, and executive producer. Snyder will be an executive producer as well. Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller will also produce the series through Stone Quarry Animation, their production company’s newest venture with Oliva.

Snyder is currently directing, writing, and producing the zombie thriller film “Army of the Dead” for Netflix. Oliva is currently in production on the Manila-set Netflix original anime series “Trese.”

“Zack Snyder’s innovation in visual storytelling has pushed the industry forward and established him as one of the most distinctive filmmakers of his generation. We are beyond excited to partner with him and his exceptional team to bring the iconic characters and stories of Norse mythology to life in his inimitable style,” said John Derderian, head of Anime programming for Netflix.

Netflix has been building up its anime slate. Last month, the streamer announced that “Avengers: Endgame” directors Joe and Anthony Russo would spearhead a “Magic: The Gathering” series, and has “Cannon Busters,” “Seis Manos” and “Levius” premiering later this year.
