HBO has set the cast for its “Euphoria” pilot, with Zendaya in the lead role of Rue, the network said Tuesday.
In addition to “The Greatest Showman” star, “Euphoria” will include Maude Apatow as Lexi, Eric Dane as Cal, and “Wrinkle in Time” star Storm Reid as Gia. Rounding out the cast is Brian “Astro” Bradley as McKay and Angus Cloud as Fezco, Alexa Demie as Maddy, Jacob Elordi as Nate, Barbie Ferreira as Kat, Nika King as Leslie, Hunter Schafer as Jules, and Sydney Sweeney as Cassie.
The drama is an adaptation of the Israeli series of the same name, and tells the story of Rue, a lying and drug-addicted 17-year-old girl, as she tackles drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love and friendship.
HBO ordered the pilot back in March. Sam Levinson will write and executive produce, along with Ravi Nandan, Kevin Turen, Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein, Mirit Toovi, Yoram Mokadi, and Gary Lennon. Ron Leshem, Daphna Levin and Tmira Yardeni, creators of the original “Euphoria,” will all serve as executive producers on HBO’s version. Co-executive producer Augustine Frizzell will direct the pilot, and A24 will produce.
