Zhang Ziyi (“Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”) has signed on with Warner Bros. and Legendary to join the cast of “Godzilla: King of Monsters,” the next installment in the studios’ “MonsterVerse” series.
Ziyi will play a recurring role in the “MonsterVerse” as a member of Monarch, a mysterious scientific organization that was introduced in the 2014 “Godzilla” film and also played a role in the latest “MonsterVerse” installment, “Kong: Skull Island.”
“Godzilla: King of Monsters” stars Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford and Ken Watanabe. It is directed and co-written by Michael Dougherty, with Zach Shields also sharing writing credit. The film will be released on March 22, 2019, and will be followed by the crossover film “Godzilla vs. Kong” on May 22, 2020.
