‘Zombieland: Double Tap’ Red Band Trailer Brings Bill Murray Back From the Dead (Video)

Sequel to horror comedy opens in theaters Oct. 18

You may recall that Bill Murray died (spoiler alert!) during his scene in the original “Zombieland,” shot in the chest with a shotgun by Jesse Eisenberg after he pretended to be a zombie in what capped off one of the more memorable movie cameos of the last decade.

But he’s back from the dead in the latest trailer for “Zombieland: Double Tap,” a Red Band teaser before the film opens on Oct. 18. But rather than show back up as a zombie, there’s an odd, meta moment with Murray giving an interview to Al Roker as to why he chose to star in the original “Zombieland.”

“What made you do it? And, don’t say the script,” Roker says. “Can we keep this between us? Drugs cost money,” Murray responds candidly.

He’s just one of several ways in which Ruben Fleischer’s sequel nods to how much time has passed between this and the original film and how all four of its principal cast members, Woody Harrelson, Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin and Emma Stone, have been nominated for Oscars since starring in it.

“Time to nut up or shut up,” Harrelson says. “That saying is very 2009,” a newcomer played by Luke Wilson says back.

Wilson is one of several new cast members, including Zoey Deutch, Rosario Dawson and Avan Jogia.
