567 people woke up to good news on Thursday, July 16.
That’s when “Orange is the New Black” Emmy winner Uzo “Crazy Eyes” Aduba, Cat Deeley and TV Academy CEO Bruce Rosenblum announced nominations for the 67 Primetime Emmy Awards. And there is even more good news coming for them.
Every nominee gets a TV Academy-sanctioned and hosted party for their craft.
Beginning Saturday, July 18 with the Costume Designers at FIDM, every “Peer Group” and category will have a reception to celebrate with their industry colleagues who nominated them. They also get to meet-and-greet and size up fellow nominees in person.
Most are outdoors on the terrace at the Montage in Beverly Hills, a change from years past when several were at the Television Academy itself in North Hollywood. There will be cocktails, certificate presentations (a consolation keepsake for anyone who does not walk off with a statuette), and lots of “What are you working on now?” chit-chat.
Academy Governors go to most of them, so their livers and appetite for appetizers should hit zero by Labor Day.
If you had your pick of one — and you do not — I recommend the Performers Nominee Reception. It is now on the night before the Emmys itself, September 19th. It’s where this year’s crop of nominees get together for a proverbial class photo (above and below).
Details on the highly sought after private Emmy week parties like HBO, and the ones nobody gets invited to (looking at you Netflix, CAA, WME, and Entertainment Weekly) will be forthcoming in a separate post.
