AMC OKs Its Fifth Original Series

Cable network picks up 13 episodes of Veena Sud’s pilot, “The Killing”

AMC on Wednesday greenlit 13 one-hour episodes of "The Killing," the working title of the cable network's newest original series about a murder mystery.

Set in Seattle, "The Killing" features "Big Love's" Mireille Enos as a homicide detective investigating the murder of a young girl. Billy Campbell, Joel Kinnaman, Brent Sexton, Darren Richmond and "True Blood's" Michelle Forbes are also part of the cast.

AMC originally ordered the pilot, based on a Danish series called "Forbrydelsen," in January. Former "Cold Case" executive producer Veena Sud wrote the pilot and will sever as showrunner.

The pilot was titled "The Killing," but the series may go by a different name.

Whatever it ends up being called, it's AMC's fifth original series after "Mad Men," "Breaking Bad," "Rubicon" and upcoming "The Walking Dead." The show will be executive produced by Mikkel Bondesen for Fuse Entertainment. Fuse's Kristen Campo is co-producing and Fox Television Studios will also produce the show.

The series will premiere in 2011.
