Ammer suffered a heart attack in the middle of the night Saturday and was rushed to St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, where he died early Sunday morning.

The news came as a shock to those who knew him, all of whom said he was in good physical health, working out frequently and receiving regular check-ups. Friends said that Ammer's father also died prematurely of a heart attack.

Ammer oversaw marketing at a number of studios, including Sony, Revolution, Disney, Relativity and Marvel.

He began his career at Fox, where he worked for nine years. He then moved to Synergy, then Disney, Revolution and Sony before founding his own consulting firm, G2.

Named Advertising Age’s Entertainment Marketer of the Year in 2003, he worked on campaigns for Disney films such as “The Insider,” “Toy Story 2” and “Remember the Titans," as well as Sony films like "Spider-Man" and "Maid in Manhattan."

After G2, Ammer ran marketing operations in the early days of Marvel Studios, building campaigns for “Iron Man” and "The Incredible Hulk." He soon went to work for Relativity, though just briefly.

Ammer resigned from Relativity in August of 2010, replaced by Peter Adee. Most recently, Ammer was running Clarius Entertainment, a new distribution and marketing company that was working on its first movie.

He is survived by his wife Mia Ricchiuti Ammer, two young children and two sisters, Connie and Bonnie.
