ABC Family’s ‘Shadowhunters’ Adds David Castro as Raphael

Actor will recur on series starring Katherine McNamara and Dominic Sherwood based on Cassandra Clare YA best-sellers

ABC Family’s “Shadowhunters” has found its Raphael in newcomer David Castro, the network announced Thursday.

Castro will recur on the show with a cast that also includes Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Harry Shum Jr., Alan Van Sprang, Alberto Rosende, Emeraude Toubia, Isaiah Mustafa and Matthew Daddario.

“Shadowhunters,” the straight-to-series adaptation of the “Mortal Instruments” series of YA novels by Cassandra Clare, will follow 18-year-old Clary, who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is, but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters — human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. When her mother Jocelyn is kidnapped, Clary is thrown into the world of demon hunting with mysterious Shadowhunter Jace (Sherwood) and her best friend Simon (Rosende).

Described as an elegantly handsome, well-dressed vampire, Raphael is ambitious and cunning, aspiring to lead the New York vampire clan.

“Shadowhunters” is produced by Constantin Film and executive produced by Ed Decter and McG, who will also direct the first episode.

Cor’s film credits include “American Pie” sequel “The Naked Mile” and horror flick “The Exorcism of Molly Hartley,” and he also has a multi-episode arc on Syfy’s upcoming “Dark Matter.” He is represented by The Characters Talent Agency and Industry Entertainment.

Castro had a small role in “27 Dresses” and is currently filming indie “Ruta Madre.” He is represented by Paradigm.
