Jo is a blunt, brassy New Yorker and Abby’s (Edelstein) best friend from college who comes to Los Angeles to help her through her divorce. Inspired by the “Girlfriends’ Guide” books by Vicki Iovine, the series follows a self-help guru who’s concealing the fact that she’s separated from her husband (Paul Adelstein).

The role of Jo was created following the exit of Janeane Garofalo, who played Lyla, a lawyer and one of Abby’s best friends, for several of the show’s earlier episodes.

Iovine, Marti Noxon, Meryl Poster, Robert Duncan McNeill, Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro serve as executive producers.
