Fox Gets Festive and Releases ‘Alien: Covenant’ Trailer (Video)

“Alien: Covenant” is set to hit theaters May 19, 2017

20th Century Fox is in the Christmas spirit as the studio has given sci-fi and horror fans the first look at this summer’s “Alien: Covenant” with the first trailer.

Director Ridley Scott’s new movie has crew members of the colony ship Covenant bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy.

Soon they discover what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

“Alien: Covenant” is intended to be the start of a new trilogy of “Alien” films all built on the events of “Prometheus.” Michael Fassbender returns as the synthetic David (with a dual role as a newer model named Walter) alongside Noomi Rapace, who played “Prometheus” protagonist Elizabeth Shaw.

They’ll be joined by franchise newcomers Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, Benjamin Rigby and James Franco.

Speaking with Coming Soon, Fassbender shared some new details about the character, saying: “I think Walter’s a real different kettle of fish. David was definitely a work-in-progress, somewhat of a prototype I suppose. The elements of him that were the human elements I think people found a little disturbing, so Walter’s more of a straightforward robot. Pretty logical, much more of a servant without the ego.”

Jack Paglen and Michael Green wrote the script.

“Alien: Covenant” is set to hit theaters May 19, 2017.
