Alison Rosen Leaves PodcastOne, Moves ‘ARIYNBF’ to Public Media Marketing (Exclusive)

Fired Adam Carolla sidekick takes her talents — and ads — to company that handles sponsorships for “Serial” and “This American Life”

Ousted “Adam Carolla Show” sidekick Alison Rosen is taking her own show’s sponsorship control and ad sales away from PodcastOne, TheWrap has learned exclusively.

“Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend” is heading to Public Media Marketing, the company that represents the wildly popular “Serial” podcast and its parent program “This American Life,” among others. On the comedy side — which is where Rosen plays — PMM boasts relationships with “The Joe Rogan Experience” and “Judge John Hodgman.”

After being fired from “The Adam Carolla Show” over the holidays, Rosen had been in talks with PodcastOne to continue with her own show there. In the interim, she was approached by other companies, ultimately settling on PMM due to positive word of mouth and promising conversations with its executives, she told us.

When prompted, Rosen also explained that despite losing her prominent “News Girl” post — and thus, salary — at Carolla Digital, she believes the new arrangement will be a financial boon for her program. Based on their prior arrangement and her allocation of studio time, production, and promotion, Carolla took a sizable cut of Rosen’s profits over the past few years — a classic revenue split scenario.

Another sum of money that Carolla cannot wet his beak on under the new scenario involves Amazon.com’s Associate Program, in which a banner ad on a show or website offers a kickback to its owner should someone click through and make a purchase. “ARIYNBF” proceeds used to be split with the former “Man Show” and current Spike TV “Catch a Contractor” host, but not anymore.

While the divvying will not be the case going forward, Rosen has lost much of her former Carolla Digital team as a result, and now hosts “Best Friend” from her dining room with a new gang of co-hosts and producers, save the steady Jenna Kim Jones, a regular who splits the talking with Rosen on Thursdays and was never a part of Team Carolla. Rosen’s Monday shows are always a one-on-one interview.

Even with the sudden turnover (Rosen’s husband Daniel Quantz has even filled in as a temporary on-mic personality), the future is looking bright, as “Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend” has grown thanks to loyal fans and flattering online conversation since the much-publicized split between the two talents.

After much of the Twitter-sphere rallied around what many saw as an unjust firing from the popular “Adam Carolla Show,” “ARIYNBF” flew up the podcast charts. The show has since come back down to Earth a bit, but is still sitting pretty at No. 16 on the comedy charts at the time of this writing.

With the past behind her — including now her former ad sales team, who she readily offers did a good job by her — Rosen is focused on the future.

“Rebuilding everything from the ground up is scary, but it’s also really exciting,” Rosen told TheWrap. “Public Media Marketing has an incredible roster which includes friends and respected colleagues — and a lady who can’t pronounce ‘Mail Chimp’ — and I’m really excited to be working with them.”

“We are very excited to be working with Alison Rosen and her hilarious podcast ‘Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend,’” added Nina Cwik, vice president of Public Media Marketing. “Alison Rosen is an amazing talent and personality. We are thrilled to welcome her to our portfolio.”
