In what will be her first dramatic performance, comedian Amy Schumer has signed on to join Miles Teller in DreamWorks’ PTSD drama “Thank You For Your Service,” TheWrap has learned.
“American Sniper” writer Jason Hall makes his directorial debut with the film, which will co-star Haley Bennett and newcomer Beulah Koale, as well as rising stars Joe Cole and Scott Haze. The supporting cast also includes Keisha Castle-Hughes (“Whale Rider”), Brad Beyer (“42”), Omar Dorsey (“Selma”) and Jayson Warner Smith (“The Birth of a Nation”).
“Thank You for Your Service” follows a group of U.S. soldiers who return from Iraq and struggle to integrate back into their civilian lives with their families, as they’re still haunted by the horrific memories of a war that threatens to destroy them long after they’ve left the battlefield.
Unlike Teller, Koale and Cole, Schumer will not play a soldier in the film, which focuses on the tragic aftermath of war.
Universal Pictures will handle domestic distribution for “Thank You For Your Service,” which is being produced by Jon Kilik and executive produced by by Ann Ruark. Oscar-nominated writer Hall adapted the acclaimed nonfiction book by David Finkel. Production is currently under way in Atlanta, Georgia.
Schumer is coming off a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in the Universal comedy “Trainwreck,” which she also wrote. She’s also preparing to star opposite Goldie Hawn in a 20th Century Fox comedy from director Jonathan Levine and producer Paul Feig.
