Angela Bassett Set to Play CIA Director in ‘Mission: Impossible 6’

“American Horror Story” alum joins Tom Cruise in Christopher McQuarrie-directed sequel

Angela Bassett has joined the cast of Paramount’s “Mission: Impossible 6,” an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

Bassett will play the C.I.A. director in the film that also stars Tom Cruise, Henry Cavill, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirky and Alec Baldwin. Christopher McQuarrie is directing the sequel.

Production on the sixth film in the franchise kicked off on April 8, and the film is set to hit theaters on July 27, 2018.

The “Mission: Impossible” movies have grossed almost $1 billion at the domestic box office since the franchise’s debut in 2000.

Bassett has starred in four seasons of Ryan Murphy’s anthology series “American Horror Story.” her other recent credits include “Chi-Raq” and “London Has Fallen.” She will next star in Marvel’s “Black Panther” alongside Michael B. Jordan and Chadwick Boseman, as well as 20th Century Fox’s upcoming 911 series, on which she serves as executive producer with Murphy and Brad Falchuk.

Bassett is represented by The Gersh Agency, Lighthouse Entertainment and Fox Rothschild.
