‘Assassin’s Creed’ Trailer: 5 Burning Questions

Which characters and historical figures will appear in the new Michael Fassbender video game adaptation?

The first “Assassin’s Creed” trailer dropped on Wednesday night and from the looks of things, it could be the first great video game movie.

And while the trailer featured many stunning aspects from the game, including parkour and the Leap of Faith, there are still plenty of questions about what else from the hit franchise will make it into the movie.

Below, we break down what elements we would like to see as Michael Fassbender straps on the hidden blades.

1. Will Desmond Miles/Ezio Auditore da Firenze make an appearance?
While Fassbender will be playing an entirely new character, there’s nothing saying that Desmond could make an appearance. And Ezio was roaming around Italy around the same time Fassbender’s character will be in Spain, so they could very well team up.

2. Will “Those Who Came Before” be a factor?
One of the most interesting storylines in the “Assassin’s Creed” games involved a race of ancient beings who previously ruled the Earth and their attempts to control humanity. Nothing in the trailer indicated they would be in the movie, but it would be cool to see them rendered onscreen with top notch CGI.

3. Pieces of Eden
Those Who Came Before notoriously invented the Pieces of Eden, supposedly magical objects capable of controlling people’s minds or even driving them to madness. Again, they weren’t featured in the trailers, but they were such a hallmark of the games that it would be surprising if they didn’t pop up.

4. Rebecca and Shaun
In the games, Desmond had a support team that included the wise cracking Englishman Shaun and the always bubbly Rebecca. Will Fassbender get a similar team to help him navigate his ancestor’s memories?

5. Historical figures
The “Assassin’s Creed” games have often featured prominent historical figures, like King Richard the Lionheart, Pope Alexander VI and even Blackbeard. Which renowned historical figures will Fassbender be fighting or helping in the new movie?

“Assassin’s Creed” opens in theaters on Dec. 21.
