“Bachelor” alum Chris Soules has been formally charged in connection with a car crash he was involved in last month that left a man dead.

NBC affiliate KWWL reported on Monday that Soules has been charged with hit and run, resulting from death as a result of the crash.

Soules was taken into custody by the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office after the pickup truck he was driving rear-ended a John Deere tractor at approximately 8 p.m. on April 24.

Soules was arrested at his home near Arlington, Iowa, and charged with leaving the scene of an accident where a death occurred. He was taken to Buchanan County Jail where he was released on a $10,000 bond.

Papers subsequently filed by Soules’ attorneys sought to have the charge dismissed, arguing that Soules satisfied the Iowa code governing conduct in such cases.

However, according to ABC News, Buchanan County Attorney Shawn M. Harden filed papers alleging that Soules bought alcohol at a convenience store prior to the crash that claimed the life of Kenneth Mosher.

Harden also alleged that the reality TV veteran had “empty and partially consumed open” alcoholic beverages “located in and around his vehicle.”

Harden further stated in his response to Soules’ motion to dismiss that the former reality TV star “did attempt to obfuscate the immediate facts and circumstances surrounding the incident, including his level of intoxication and an explanation of the empty and partially consumed open alcoholic beverages located in and around his vehicle.”

Soules’ arraignment is scheduled for May 23.
