TheWrap has exclusively learned from an individual with knowledge of the situation that Deathstroke, the DC Comics character portrayed in new footage Ben Affleck released Monday, will be the primary villain in the upcoming standalone Dark Knight adventure titled “The Batman.”

Ben Affleck may have just given Batman fans their first glimpse of the villain of his upcoming standalone movie.

Affleck tweeted a video (below) that appears to be test footage for the new movie, featuring the DC Comics villain Deathstroke.

Deathstroke, a.k.a Slade Wilson, is a mercenary and master assassin in the DC Universe. He possesses superhuman strength and reflexes, a brilliant tactical mind, and the ability to regenerate quickly after sustaining injuries. He has fought with Batman several times in the comics.

Affleck first donned the Dark Knight’s cowl to star in “Batman v Superman,” and then appeared briefly in “Suicide Squad.” He will again play the role in the upcoming two-part “Justice League” outing before directing and starring in his own standalone film.

No official release date for the new Batman movie has been scheduled yet,  but “Justice League Part One” is due out in 2017, with “Part Two” currently scheduled for 2019. Affleck is also set to star in and direct 2018 drama “Witness for the Prosecution.”

Warner Bros. studio head Kevin Tsujihara announced that Affleck would take the reins of his own movie in the ever-growing DC Cinematic Universe back in April. Thus far, no official plot details for the film have been confirmed.
