Discovery’s “Bering Sea Gold” will return for its new season on Friday, Aug. 11 at 9 p.m., TheWrap has learned exclusively from the network. We’ve also got your first look at that premiere above.
In the sneak peek, the Kelly crew finally arrives at Nome, Alaska’s mythical Bluff, where mining for gold under the winter ice is apparently a slam-dunk for riches. It’s just a real pain to get there, and when you do, the temperature is way below freezing. Kris Kelly, for one, is unfazed.
“Nobody has this opportunity,” he says to camera in the clip. “There’s no chance in America you can go and say, ‘Hey, you go do this, there — and you’re gonna make a million dollars.’ No one has that chance.”
Unfortunately, his awful dad isn’t as optimistic. To be fair to the Kelly patriarch, Chris didn’t even set up a tent yet and they’re in the middle of nowhere. Watch the in-fighting start early above. It’s only going to get uglier as the season progresses.
Also on the new season, Shawn Pomrenke is back after being outbid by other miners for the Nome Gold claim. The Pomrenke Mining company is at a turning point, as Shawn prepares to lead his father’s company forward, Discovery described the upcoming run. Zeke and Emily return searching for gold too, just not together. After last summer, Zeke cut ties with Emily and they’ve each been mining on their own without much luck.
