Italian actress Claudia Cardinale appears on the poster for the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, which was unveiled by festival organizers on Wednesday in advance of what will be the 70th Cannes.

The poster features a photo of Cardinale (whose films include Luchino Visconti’s “Rocco and His Brothers,” Federico Fellini’s “8 1/2” and Blake Edwards’ “The Pink Panther”) dancing on a rooftop in Rome in 1959. In the Cannes press release that accompanied the poster release, Cardinale said she does not remember the name of the photographer, adding, “But the photo reminds me of my origins, and of a time when I never dreamed of climbing the steps of the world’s most famous cinema hall.”

Cardinale is the latest in a string of movie stars who have graced the Cannes poster in recent years. While last year’s poster was a movie still from Jean-Luc Godard’s “Contempt” in which star Michel Piccoli was only seen at a distance, previous years included shots of Ingrid Bergman, Marcello Mastroianni, Marilyn Monroe, Faye Dunaway and Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward.

The Bronx agency in Paris designed the poster, with “visual identity” by Philippe Savoir.

The 70th Cannes Film Festival will kick off on May 17 and run through May 28. Spanish director Pedro Almodovar has been named president of the Cannes jury, and actress Monica Bellucci will serve as mistress of ceremonies. The lineup of films will be announced in mid April.
