Nicole Perlman (“Guardians of the Galaxy”) and Meg LeFauve (Pixar’s “Inside Out”) are nearing a deal to co-write “Captain Marvel” for Disney and Marvel, an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.

Marvel had no comment.

“Captain Marvel” is Marvel’s first female-driven superhero movie. The project doesn’t have a director yet, but TheWrap has learned that Marvel plans to hire a female filmmaker, as the comic book follows Air Force pilot Carol Danvers.

Michelle MacLaren has been rumored for the coveted job, as she just departed the “Wonder Woman” movie at Warner Bros. due to creative differences.

Kevin Feige will produce “Captain Marvel,” which is slated for release on July 6, 2018.

The Tracking Board broke the news.
