Authorities in Washington say he was “alert, upright, dressed, groomed and cognizant of what was going on”
According to authorities in Kitsap County, Washington, where Casey Kasem was found, the legendary radio personality wasn't in any danger when they discovered him on Tuesday, after he was reported missing by his family on Monday. Instead, they indicate that he was on vacation with his wife, visiting friends in the area, which is west of Seattle.
In a report by the Associated Press, Sheriffs County Deputy Scott Wilson said,”We know he has an affliction, but he was alert, upright, dressed, groomed and cognizant of what was going on. We see a lot of at-risk adults and children. This wasn't anywhere close to being suspicious.”
Apparently unaware that he had been found, Kasem's children filed a missing persons report on Wednesday. A few hours after that, they were alerted that he'd been found in Washington. “”We are grateful to the local authorities for finding my dad,” Kasem's daughter, Kerri Kasem, wrote in a statement. “We are one step closer to bringing him home.”
Casey Kasem's children have been in a lengthy battle with his wife over visitation rights to their father. They were unaware that he had left Los Angeles, and began the search for him when an attorney for their stepmother indicated he did not know where Kasem was.
Casey Kasem suffers from Lewy Body Disease, a form of dementia similar to Parkinson's Disease, according to a family representative, which has left him virtually unable to speak.
