“This Is Us” star Chrissy Metz talked back to body shamers over a latex dress she wore to the MTV Movie & TV Awards on Sunday night.

While Metz didn’t point to any specific comments or refer to her wardrobe choice that night, it’s clear she was on the receiving end of some online negativity.

People rushed to her defense, tweeting “Own it beauty!” and “You can pull of anything! You looked absolutely stunning tonight.”

Metz attended the event at the Shrine Auditorium with “This Is Us” costars Milo Ventimiglia and Lonnie Chavis. The NBC drama was nominated in four categories and won the MTV Movie & TV Award for Tearjerker.

Metz has been an advocate for positive body image in the past. In March, she told Harper’s Bazaar, “If you can’t love who you are now, you can’t get to the place you want to be. It’s a daily lesson for all of us. I’m paving the way for other women and men who know they’re destined for greatness but they don’t believe it yet. There’s more room for all of us now — no matter our sexuality, race, body size, gender or whatever else.”

One month later, she penned a powerful letter to her teenage self, asking for her to “stop comparing yourself to anyone or anything.”
