CMT Lines Up Katy Perry-Kasey Musgraves ‘Crossroads’ Special, More ‘Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders’

Network reveals a very full Summer and Fall slate

CMT announced its summer and fall schedule Wednesday, revealing a lineup that includes the special “CMT Crossroads: Katy Perry and Kacey Musgraves,” a second season of the reality series “Party Down South” and a ninth season of “Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team.”

The Perry-Musgraves special, premiering June 13 at 10 p.m., will feature the two musicians swapping lyrics an sharing stories prior to the duo’s upcoming tour together. The show will tape during their live Los Angeles performance. The special — the 50th episode of the series — will also air for the first time on multiple channels including MITV, VH1, MTV Hits and Palladia.

Also airing in the coming months on CMT: The series premiere of “Broken Skull Ranch,” which is billed as the “ultimate badass competition show.” From wrestling notable Steve Austin, the series — premiering in July — will feature contestants going head-to-head until the last man standing earns the right to take on the toughest obstacle course in America, the “Skullbuster,” and the chance to win $10,000.

CMT also said Wednesday that it’s creating a News & Docs division, with an inaugural slate that includes “Promiseland” from Ridley Scott and “Freedom” from director Morgan Spurlock.

“We’re fulfilling our promise to create a CMT News & Docs division with a slate of bold and compelling stories that reflect big personalities and monumental events that helped define America, our music and our spirit,” executive vice president of CMT programming and development Jayson Dinsmore said of the new division. “We’ve partnered with some of the most respected and visionary filmmakers working today, all charged with producing unique documentaries through an authentic and distinctive lens.”

CMT’S SUMMER LINEUP

INSIDE FAME: FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE – premieres May 2014
One-hour special
CMT’s biography series INSIDE FAME returns to TV with the first in-depth look at country superstars, Florida Georgia Line. The duo dominated the country charts in 2013, achieving multiplatinum status with their debut “Cruise,” which was named the best-selling digital country single in history with sales of over 6.8 million digital downloads (Soundscan). INSIDE FAME takes fans inside the lives of Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley with all new interviews, never-before-seen home videos, exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and more. Jayson Dinsmore and Lewis Bogach serve as executive producers for CMT.

CMT MUSIC AWARDS – premieres June 4 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT
Two and a-half hour special
It’s CMT’s biggest night of the year as the annual CMT MUSIC AWARDS brings the party live from Nashville with country music’s best-loved superstars and special celebrity guests. The annual awards show, now entering its 13th year, is the network’s highest-rated night each year. Michael Dempsey will executive produce the 2014 CMT MUSIC AWARDS alongside director Joe DeMaio. John Hamlin and Margaret Comeaux will serve as executive producers for CMT.

PARTY DOWN SOUTH – premieres June 5 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT

The eight housemates of PARTY DOWN SOUTH are back for another season of muddin’, funnelin’ and gettin’ country as they embark on an epic spring break. After an unforgettable summer in South Carolina, Daddy, Lil Bit, Lyle, Mattie, Tiffany, Lauren, Walt and Murray return to reignite old friendships and flames and even make some new connections along the way. This bold and hilarious dysfunctional family will work hard and party harder as this season is sure to be the most outrageous yet. CMT CROSSROADS: KATY PERRY AND KACEY MUSGRAVES – premieres June 13 at 10 p.m. ET/PT

For more than a decade, CMT CROSSROADS has delivered some of the most unforgettable performances on television. Next up are global superstar Katy Perry and recent Grammy winner Kacey Musgraves, who will appear in the 50th episode of the critically acclaimed and longest-running music series of the network. For the first time in the series history, this all-new episode of CROSSROADS will not only air on CMT, but will also air on multiple channels including VH1, MTV, MTV Hits and Palladia. The two stars will swap lyrics and share stories in a performance to be taped live in Los Angeles before embarking on a tour together later this summer. DOG AND BETH: ON THE HUNT – premieres June 14 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT
