“Glee” cast says goodbye to Finn Hudson with a “Rent” chestnut
“Glee” kicked off its tribute episode to Cory Monteith in grand style on Thursday, delivering a somber rendition of the song “Seasons of Love” from the play “Rent” in the opening sequence.
Clad in funereal black, the “Glee” cast provided a musical reminder of the passage of time and the fleeting nature of life to kick off the episode, titled “The Quarterback.”
Monteith, who had long struggled with substance abuse, died in Vancouver at age 31 in July. According to the coroner’s report, Monteith died of a mixed drug toxicity, involving intravenous heroin use combined with the ingestion of alcohol.
