The “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s” opening credits sequence is one of the elements of the show that changes every season, and Season 3 is no different.

Series creator Aline Brosh McKenna announced to reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour Wednesday that for Season 3, acclaimed music video director Joseph Kahn will direct the opening credits.

Star and executive producer Rachel Bloom added that he will also direct the fourth episode of the season, which she said is a “very important episode for us.”

While you may not be familiar with Kahn’s name, you’ve definitely seen his work. He’s been directing music videos since the early 1990s, pairing with some of the era’s biggest artists in multiple genres. Some include Montell Jordan, New Edition, Usher, Snoop Dogg, Destiny’s Child, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Blink-182, the Offspring, Kelly Clarkson, and many more.

Although most notable is the video for “The Thong Song” by Sisqo. That was the one the “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” cast singled out, anyway. Plus, it also might’ve sparked an idea for a future musical number — one based on the iconic song.

The opening credits and numbers are some of the most thought-about in the show.”It was a process. there were a lot of songs. we talked about it a lot,” Bloom said. “It’s the most talked about songwriting process.”

“We did a lot of R&D for it. They’re not just catchy songs. They’re conceptual videos,” McKenna added.
