‘Criminal Minds’ Renewed by CBS for Season 12

Joe Mantegna series is still a Top 10 drama in total viewers

CBS has renewed Joe Mantegna drama “Criminal Minds” for Season 12.

Currently in its 11th season, the procedural still draws just over 12 million total viewers per episode — good enough to be a Top 10 drama. “Criminal Minds” averages a 2.8 rating/9 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic — that’s second-best for CBS.

Those numbers are per Nielsen’s “most current” ratings metric, which counts seven-day delayed viewing where available.

Beyond Mantegna, the show also stars Thomas Gibson, Matthew Gray Gubler, A.J. Cook and Kirsten Vangsness.

Mark Gordon, Erica Messer and Breen Frazier are executive producers for the ABC Studios series, which is produced in association with CBS Television Studios.

This season, the franchise gave birth to spinoff “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders.” That new series doesn’t have a renewal decision yet, but it’s very likely to get a second season.

CBS will hold its TV upfront event on May 18, so all cancel/renewal/pilot decisions should be in by then.
